Leicester's Guildhall was started in 1390 and added to during the years following. This image was taken on a sunny crisp morning with the sun shining on the building. The hall was used for many purposes, including council meetings, feasts, as a courtroom, and for theatrical performances; the ultimatum given to the city during The English Civil war in 1645, was discussed here.

Leicester's first police force had its station in the Guildhall from 1836.

In the 1920's there were plans to demolish the building because it was becoming very dilapidated. The Leicestershire Archaeological and Historical Society, protested and the council began restoration work on the building, which was completed in 1926 and then opened as a museum.

Today it is still used as a museum, and is also used as a venue for musical performances. At a press conference on 4 February 2013 it was confirmed that Archaeologists had discovered the remains of Richard The Third in the nearby greyfriar...
